So here it is…The moment you’ve all been waiting for!

I’ve had messages galore from curious minds….

Are you ready?

Last week, we made our big trip to Beijing for our 20 week scan. This scan was especially important to us having the history that we have. While in Beijing, we were able to have a great appointment (more info later!!!,) and we learned our baby is developing beautifully so far! Praise the Lord!

The only downside to our appointment was not being able to find out the gender. The hospital informed us that because the Chinese law forbids them to tell families the gender of their children they would not be able to tell us whether it was a boy or a girl, but they allowed us to look at the babies picture and try to guess for ourselves. This drove me crazy!! We looked and looked for a good 5 minutes or more, but we just could not tell! It simply wasn’t clear (and I have seen PLENTY of ultrasound pictures of both girls and boys mind you!!)

So after returning to our city, I became a tad bit obsessed with finding out. I had met an American in our city who had found out the gender of three of her children here, and I had decided I was bound and determined to do the same!

The day after our appointment, I went to the hospital, but my doctor was not in. I chose to see another doctor who told me that it would be impossible to find out in China. Bummer. I then called another hospital and offered to pay for a ridiculously expensive ultrasound (compared to the normal Chinese prices of course! :) ) if they would tell me the gender, but they too told me it was impossible.

The next day, I returned to the hospital to see my regular doctor who happened to be in that day. I sat down in front of her and calmly said, “I went to Beijing and they did the anatomy scan; everything is perfect so far, but I want to know the gender!!”

She smiled and said “No problem!’

She then went on to explain that normally the doctors would be correct in saying “it’s impossible,” but since she’s the expert OB/ GYN at the hospital, she could definitely make it happen.

I was ecstatic!! The only problem was that the line was 2.5 hours long to get an ultrasound!

Oh the things we do…when we’re crazy and pregnant! hehe

So 2 hours later, my OB took her lunch and I was alone praying she’d make it back before I was called back.

She wasn’t….

imagine that….

Thankfully, I had her phone number on hand….We gave her a call and she gave the ultrasound tech orders to treat us well and tell us the gender. To my surprise, the ultrasound tech didn’t even put up a fight!

She did another anatomy scan to make sure that the baby was indeed healthy, and then….

she said……

and our suspicions were confirmed RIGHT!

We had suspected a girl!

The ultrasound tech was terrified that I would be upset it wasn’t a boy (since Chinese families desperately want boys,) but I informed her I was happy either way :)

When I returned to see my doctor, she excitedly asked…

Well!!! What is it?!!?

I told her it was a girl, and she smiled extremely big! She had always wanted a girl herself….She told me not to worry…one day my boy would come.

The rest of the appointment included hearing the heart beat over the doppler for the very first time (hooray!,) a weight check, blood pressure check, and lots of fun baby talk! I left so encouraged…and so extremely happy with the doctor the Lord has sent us to. I hope to get to know her more and more over time. The Lord has truly knit my heart to hers.

I will admit, my husband and I had convinced ourselves that a boy would be awesome, so having a girl has taken some time to get used to, but we know how wonderful it is to raise little girls, and we are so thankful for this opportunity!

I’m still in shock that if the Lord continues to allow we will be bringing this baby home. I catch myself looking at baby things and not buying them…as if I can’ if it’s all a dream.

Thank you to all who continually support us, send us loving notes, and excitedly share every moment with us. You have no idea what it means to me.

16 weeks and growing!

Baby #3...A GIRL
